Dawa: Swahili for ‘medicine’ – in colonial Africa, Gin & Tonic was used as a preventative, cure all, general excuse for over imbibing, due to the quinine in the tonic… but I still see the gin as the real helper! This beauty started off as a joke – I had made a coffee soap (I don’t drink coffee), a tea soap (I don’t drink tea), and a beer soap (you guessed it.. I don’t drink beer) – and an acquaintance said that shower gin wasn’t really socially acceptable (I don’t talk to that person any more as I didn’t like their negativity).. so I decided to make a gin soap! Living in Healesville, the home of Four Pillars Gin, I knew that this soap needed to be an homage to my ‘local’ – so of course I ensured I did plenty of “research” into the aromats Four Pillars use and modelled my essential oil blend off of these. A gin soap wouldn’t be a gin soap without…. GIN! So there is a good healthy splash of Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin in this beauty as well. Dawa was the catalyst for launching the full Pamoja (Together) range which feature some of my local Yarra Valley tipples.
